Rachael is Deputy Chief Executive and Deputy Government Statistician for Insights and Statistics at Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa – New Zealand’s official data agency and national statistical office.
Delivering data and statistics about Aotearoa for Aotearoa is something that Rachael has been passionate about her whole career, spanning over 20 years.
Since joining Stats NZ, she has worked in a range of analytical and leadership roles. In 2014, Rachael went on secondment to lead the Secretariat supporting the first stage of the Government Inquiry into the Whey Protein Concentrate Contamination Incident (also known as the Fonterra Inquiry).
Rachael has represented New Zealand in the international statistical community and more recently in the following capacity, as a member of the United Nations Bureau for the Committee on Economic and Environmental Accounting; as an invited member of the inaugural United Nations Network of Economic Statisticians, and from 2018 -2020 as Chair of the United Nations Friends of the Chair Group on the Fundamental Principles for Official Statistics and Open Data.
Rachael has been an elected member of the New Zealand AI Forum Executive Council since 2019.
